How This Works
Home / How This Works
Colorado Plumbing HQ is a referral line, not a plumbing company. This page explains exactly what that means, because it changes what you should expect when you call.
What we are, plainly
We answer the phone, work out what has actually gone wrong, and connect you with an independent plumbing professional who covers your town and handles that kind of work. We do not send our own crews, because we do not have any. Every job is carried out by an independent contractor who is responsible for their own work, their own pricing and their own schedule.
The reason to say this on its own page rather than in small print is that it affects who you are dealing with once the van arrives. Your agreement for the work is with the contractor, not with us.
What happens on the call
You describe the problem
Where the water is, what stopped working, whether anything is still running. If you do not know, that is normal — the questions are ours to ask.
We work out the trade
A backed-up lateral, a failing well pump and a boiler that will not fire are three different specialists. Getting this right first is the difference between one visit and three.
We match by town and by problem
Who covers your address, who is working at this hour, who does this specific kind of repair.
You deal with them directly
Arrival window, diagnosis, price and the work itself are all agreed between you and the contractor.
If it is an emergency, do this first
Before you call anyone
If water is actively escaping, close the main shutoff. If you smell gas, leave the building first and call from outside. If a sewer line is backing up, stop running every fixture in the house, including the washing machine. These three actions limit the damage more than anything a plumber can do in the first twenty minutes.
How contractors are selected
Coverage comes first: a plumber two hours away is not help. After that, the match is about the specific failure and the hour of the day, because the set of people who will drive out for a burst pipe at 2am is not the same set who fit a water softener on a Tuesday afternoon.
We ask contractors to hold the credentials and cover that Colorado and their locality require of them, and it is always reasonable for you to ask to see that documentation before work begins. We do not verify it on their behalf and we do not present ourselves as having done so — asking directly is both normal and sensible.
What it costs
Pricing is set by the contractor who does the work, and it is theirs to quote and yours to accept before anything starts. We do not set prices, quote on their behalf, or take payment for the work. Ask for the number, and what it includes, before anyone begins.
Where this works
We cover 135 communities across seven Colorado regions, from the metro to the eastern plains. Response times vary considerably with geography and with weather: a Denver address on a clear Tuesday and a high-country address during a February storm are genuinely different propositions, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Common questions
Not. We are the phone line that finds you one. The work is done by an independent contractor who is solely responsible for it.
An independent local plumbing business. They will introduce themselves when they call or arrive, and you are entitled to their business details, their documentation and a price before work starts.
We will say so on the call rather than leave you waiting. In remote areas and during storms that is a real possibility, and knowing early lets you make other arrangements.
The contractor, first — the work and any warranty on it are theirs. Tell us as well. We cannot resolve a dispute between you and an independent business, but who we refer to in future is entirely within our control.
